Dog shampoo alternative?

I've heard that baby shampoo can be a great and cheap alternative to dog shampoo...is this true?





I don't want to give him dry or itchy skin to save a few bucks?

It really depends on the individual dog. I use baby shampoo (tearless) on my dog's face but hypoallergenic dog shampoo on the rest of him. If you're worried about his skin getting dry, you can use regular hair conditioner on him. Dogs really like lavender, and my favorite conditioner is Avalon Organics lavender. My dogs all love it and it seems to soothe itchy skin.

Reply:Sure, but just be careful at first because sometimes dogs have sensitive skin. I use it all the time on my dogs, though, and have no problems. Give it a try and then watch for dry skin or for any irritated areas.

Reply:as long as the dog doesn't get a bath more than once a week baby shampoo is fine. More than that and you're washing out key oils the skin and coat need.
Reply:No, baby shampoo shouldn't even be used on babies. It has harsh chemicals that dry skin, damage hair/fur and cause itching.


Look into Tropiclean, and Earthbath. They are the best.


You really need something made for animals.
Reply:I have been researching this for my daughter. some folks suggest the 20 mule borax soap. Most though suggest plain old dawn dishwashing liquid, like they say, if it's safe enough for the animals that had all that oil spilled on them it should be safe for fido. good luck
Reply:i am not sure, but i wouldnt. i think dog shampoo will work the best%26lt;%26gt; [lol] but anyway i think baby shampoo is sort of harsh on its skin so i probably wouldnt try it =]

12 OZ IVORY LIQUID SOAP





2 OZ LIQUID GLYCERINE ( YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO GET AT YOUR PHARMACY)





2 OZ WHITE VINEGAR





FILL REST OF GALLON CONTAINER WITH WATER AND SHAKE TO MIX TOGETHER.





USE TO BATHE YOUR DOGS.

Dog Shampoo Recipe





Aloe Vera Pet Shampoo





About as pure a shampoo as you can get, this recipe is detergent-free; in addition, the healing properties of aloe vera gel helps to sooth skin irritations.





Ingredients





* 2 cups water


* 2 teaspoons liquid castile soap


* 2 tablespoons aloe vera gel





Combine all ingredients in a jar. Shake to blend. Get the pet’s coat wet, pour on the shampoo a few table spoons at a time, lathering as you go. Work the shampoo in with your hands. Rinse thoroughly. Unless you want the pet to shake themselves dry (and get everything in the vicinity wet at the same time) towel them dry.
Reply:I use dish soap to wash my grandma's dogs and it doesn't bother them. You can experiment with a wide variety of soaps for you're dog. All animals react diffently to diffent soap products, but a dog's skin and our skin is pretty much the same. We used to use head and sholders on our Horses and one particularly dandriff ridden dog. I realy don't think it makes a diffence, baby shampoo is probably fine.
