I have had to go to the doctors alot this past year but it was just for little things, like I had several uti's, went a few times becase I had itchy skin and stuff but everything is better now but i had gone to the doc like 15 times in the past year.
so im just wondering when i see my family doctor next if my family doc will ask my questions about all the times that i went to the doc or as long as the condition is not bugging me anymore then she wont ask me about it. i dont want her to think im crazy for going to the clinic so much and i dont want her to ask me about it.
Do family doctors review your medical records from clinincs and other doctors?
no, not usually. practically never
Reply:No. Not even "practically ever." NEVER. They have no access to your medical records from any other doctor. You would have to release the information to the family doctor. They can't get it without your permission.
Reply:If you went somewhere entirely different then she wont have access. She has to have you fill out a sort of pemission form to get records from other places, she wont know unless you tell her. And if she does know for whatever reason, if she brings it up just tell her you dont want to talk about it. She cant make you do anything
Reply:I don't think they do. They need your permission to do that, normally you have to sign something that says they can.
Reply:there is no centralized location for an individuals medical records. if Dr A wants to see the records from Dr. B, A must request them from B. If Dr A is working with Dr C on treating a certain condition they "might" share the same medical records or close to that.
Reply:Well you need to be the active voice in your medical care. Dr.can look at your other drs information only if they have it to lok at. A release of information must be signed and filed out by you requesting that a dr gets a copy of the record. If you don't open your mouth and speak the problems your having they won't think its a serious issue and then it wont be addressed and treated. Have you thought about seeing a urologists. THere is medication that can help prevent UTI's.
But again its your responsibility as a patient to speak your medical problems to your dr so that the dr can help u and treat it or work with other drs to help u. i truely wish u the best.
Reply:Unless you told the clinics who your family doctor is, or they are all part of the same practice group, they won't get the information.
You need to give them written permission for your records to be sent to your doctor. If you want him/her to know, the best thing to to is tell him at your next visit.
I think the biggest question is, why did you go to the doctor 15 times? Were you really sick, or were you just worried something was wrong? If you were just worried, there is a condition that causes you to be afraid you are sick all the time. Your doctor can help you feel better and less worried.
Reply:well, they will ask but if you lie and they don't have access to your medical records from the other offices they won't know. they can't get your medical records unless you sign a form to have them sent.
but, having said that please don't lie to your doctor about your medical history- even if you think it's not important, it could be. lying serves no purpose other than to impede our ability to treat you. it's annoying and we can usually tell when a patient is feeding us a load of bull. we're not here to judge you, just help you feel better!
Reply:It is a good idea to always have your medical records transferred when changing doctors, that way, your new doctor have the opportunity to know your medical history. You may tell your new doctor about what is going on, but some doctors are very skeptical and like to have the medical records in their hands before giving out medications, especially narcotics. THere are many people in the world who are addicted to pain medications, narcotics and who just like to take medication. Doctors must protect themselves and they do this by reading your medical history.
Remember, they can only read your medical history if you sign a medical release form that they can send to your doctor, so make sure you do this!
Reply:No, they don't look at medical records from other drs unless you give them written permission to do so. With insurance that is a bit of a different situation because it has to do with paying the dr when it comes to certain situations and trying to get coverage.
Reply:Usually, unless you ask that your records be sent to your family doctor, they have no idea that you have been to a clinic or other doctor.
