Women, or mature men only please, I have a sore area down there and don't know what to do.?

I am 14, and my mom allready gave me Monostat, and I finished that. I felt better for about a day. Now my discharge is even worse. There is about a quarter inch of red, painful, itchy skin about my libia. I told my mom, but she said to wait a few more days. It really hurts, especially when urinating and when I have to wipe. I get ingrown hairs often, and often have boils, but I have never had anything like this. I also have a strong odor to my discharge and pee. Sorry not trying to be too graphic. I have allready tried VagiGuard, Monostat, Neosporin, and Cortizone. All advice is great! Thanks!

Women, or mature men only please, I have a sore area down there and don't know what to do.?
You could have some kind of yeast infection, drink some cranberry juice a couple glasses a day soul help with the smelling your pee. As for the red spot i hope you wipe from front to rear, you don't need to introduce the back door to the front door. Also do you wear those cotton undies or those thongs, I have read and heard that the thong is a fast track to infections also. It might have help some with those creams but did you put them on and then cover the area so it remained hot and sweaty? If it was covered that could add to your troubles. try putting only one kind on wear a pair of baggy pants, sweat pants, night shirt, some kind of sleep wear and no undies, it wold mean you stay home and little to no one over until this heals up. A trip to ER would not hurt any good luck.
Reply:I would go see a doctor today. probably nothing too serious and he would give you something and then you would quit worrying so much.

HIV/AIDS Question?

Hello

Ok, about 2 years ago I had unprotected sex with someone whom Im not sure did or didnt have HIV/AIDS. I know from research that it is possible to have HIV for up to 6 months before you can get an "accurate" test, otherwise any time sooner it is likely to have a "false negative" result. So about exactly a year and 1/2 later I started freaking out about some symptoms I had been having. Which were headaches, itchy skin, fatigue and muscle aches. So after getting depressed and making myself more sick my bf took me to get an STD and HIV test. All results came back negative. Now I KNOW after a year and a 1/2 that there should be no possible way to have a false negative. So I stopped worrying and my symptoms had seemed to go away (from relief I asume) , Now after that a friend whom always seems sick had used my chapstick, so 6 months later (present time) here I am again worried that my chance of having HIV are back. I have read all possibly ways to contract HIV and i know its only ..

HIV/AIDS Question?
First of all contracting HIV after using chap stick would be very difficult. The virus does live in blood however unless you had just used the chap stick and had bled onto it then it was immediately transferred the odds of infection are extremely low. Even if you were taking care of a patient with HIV and you accidental stuck yourself with the same needle the odds of contracting HIV are a mere 200 to 1 which are relatively good odds. The illness you are describing can be related to mere fatigue, stress, or possibly even seasonal cold viruses going around. With a negative test a year and half after the last unprotected sex with a client makes your odds of having HIV slim to absolutely none. You also do not appear to fall into the high risk categories which require a large range of sexual partners, Injectable drug use, and men having sex with other men. Rest your fears some as you really have the most of minute chances of being infected with HIV.
Reply:the only way you could catch it is if ur friend had a cut on their lips n u used it with a cut on urs. the virus dies when its outside of a person though. if ur so scared, stop sharing ur personal things and use condoms n go talk to a health professional to get ALL the facts k?
Reply:Stop worrying and just go see a Dr and get an HIV test. Tell them your fears and they should be able to set your straight. If you read too much into symptoms you could think you have everything (Med Student Disease).
Reply:We just spoke about Aids in class, Yes you can get them through sexual intercourse, oral intercourse, blood to blood contact at the moment they still have not been successful in getting accurate results back on mouth to mouth contact. But I think most of what you are saying is in your head. I think you are so afraid of getting it, that you are acting like you already have it. Calm down and when you are better go get it checked out, mean while if you think you have it, there are some pre aid shots you can take in those 6 months while you wait to get a real result back.
Reply:you have an insight to what is happening to you, you know it. you dont get it from sharing chap stick. best bet--always use a condom.

Help me!!!!!!!!?

I have this area of itchy skin, i itch it constantly and when i sleep i itch it........its a real problem cuz i itch it to the point of bleeding sometimes.......its sorta near my "area"...note i am a virgin

Help me!!!!!!!!?
you need to see a doctor to see whats causeing the itch and get it taken care of
Reply:it could be exzima? possibly a rash from a type of material of clothing your wearing? maybe the material of your sheets or comforter? could be lots of things. id get it checked out by the doc. you can try antibactirial soap, along with aloe vera gel.
Reply:If it's super itchy put some hydracortizone cream on it or some Eucrine cream (really thick). If it's still bothering you in a day or two just go to the doctor....what's more embarrassing, going to a doctor about a itch close to your goods, or people thinking you're scratching your junk? Exactly.
Reply:It could be anything....from a local allergic reaction from soap, crabs, lice, or psoriasis....you should go see a doctor.

FYI you can get crabs without being sexually active.
Reply:Sounds like you may have a yeast infection. you may want to try some monistat. You can get it at the pharmacay. If this doesn't help you need to see your doctor.
Reply:Sweety, it's probably what they call "jock itch" which is caused by the same fungus that causes Athlete's Foot. Go to the drug store and get some cream, and you don't have to be embarassed, just look for one that treats both, and buy a pair of socks at the same time.
Reply:do search to find out what it is. go to webmd.com i dont know if that specific site will help but you can try just tell them what kind of symptoms you have. or if its really bad and you dont know what it is look in your phone book there should be some kind of ask a nurse thing you can call 24/7 they will answer your questions and tell you what they think you should do
Reply:I am thinking you might just have dry skin. Try to moisturize. Put lotion on before you go to bed, it should help alot. Also, try wearing mittens to bed. It sounds silly, but you can rub the itches instead of scratching them, and you shouldn't bleed.
Reply:you can goto your neighborhood pharmacy and go pick up some medication that deals with bacteria. they should have it, they have many types.

OR go see your doctor and your doc can prescribe you the gel.

you should go see your doctor instead of applying that lotion. that lotion might do more harm then good.

Mysterious itch?

Hi, everyone, I have an area of itchy skin, but there is absolutely no redness or irritation there, it's just been itching for no apparent visual cause like crazy for a couple of days. What do you think is causing this and how can I get some relief?

Mysterious itch?
It is a little early in the game to try and guess. You might just have a dry patch of skin that has become itchy, or it may be a host of other things. Try getting some Benadryl Gel and put on the spot to see if that stop it, if so then it is something minor and you don't have to worry about it. If this itching goes on for more than 4 weeks - even if you don't see any spots or anything, go to Dr. and let them check it out.
Reply:SEE A DOCTOR!
Reply:i had the same problem. and nothing was wrong it bugged me for days. try cream or anything like that. Or if you want you could go see a docter about it .
Reply:ASK A REGISTERED PHARMACIST IF IT WOULD BE ALRIGHT TO COVER IT WITH A BANDAGE OR BAND AID AND APPLY A RECCOMMENDED OINTMENT ETC. MAYBE TINCTURE OF BENZOIN OR SOMETHING THAT CAN PENETRATE AND CURE THE ITCH.
Reply:I had that in the palm of my hand once. It's annoying.

It could be anything, or nothing. My advice is a bit folksy. Get some olive oil, and rub it on the area. No matter what it is, except fungus, that will take care of it.
Reply:It sounds like a bacterial infection. This may sound crazy, but try eating yogurt. Yogurt has natural bacteria which help to flush away the bad bacteria from you system. Last year I had similar symptoms and it worked for me. Also, try drinking cranberry juice, it works amazing for cleaning out your bladder and feminine areas. Also for instant releif try using baby diaper rash cream, mineral oil (very greasy- wear a pad with this) , or canestin cream (mainly used for yeast infections) . Hope this helps.

Jade
Reply:cortisone, you can buy at the store, also there is a std that will make you itch down there and you will need to go to the doctor for that. it's called Clementia
Reply:I do not know what the itch is, but a cream 'DIPROLENE AF' will make it go away. For sure.
Reply:GO NOW AND SEE A DOCTOR! WHY ARE YOU ASKING US JUST GO!!!!!!

I was bitten last year by an insect while in Lanzarote.?

The bite was at the back of my neck and drove me mad with itching. The itching then spread onto my scalp and now months later I have red itchy skin all over my body.My doctor just says it is ecxema and has given me topical creams but nothing has worked so far.

Has anybody got any idea what this could be?

I was bitten last year by an insect while in Lanzarote.?
I would ask him to send you to see a dermatologist.
Reply:Sounds like psoriasis but this wouldnt be caused by an insect bite.
Reply:I dont want to alarm you but you will be dead very soon. ok
Reply:Sounds as though you have developed a reaction to the bite - this happened to me a couple of years ago with a mozzie bite. My doctor gave me cream and some tablets to take but I can't recall what they were. I would go back to your doctor or try another doctor in the practice.
Reply:I too seem to have the same issue - I got badly bitten by something when in Spain last summer all over my arms and chest. Now, I have red itchy skin on my arms and legs that seems to be worse at night. I went to see the dermatologist and he just gave me some cream. I plan to go back and see him again as, although it improved it, it has not gone away completely. The problem is, also, that eczema is not always curable, it can be a condition you need to manage for the rest of your life, and I wonder if that is all I need to do. May I join you on this cry for help??!!

Is it perimenopause at the age of 44?

I think that I have the symptoms of perimenopause.

I have irregular periods lasting for only one day, fatigue, itchy skin, frequent headaches, frequent irination, difficulty concentrating, loss lobido, mood swings, sweating, hot flushes I also have difficulty sleeping.

Does anyone else have the same symptoms?

Is it perimenopause at the age of 44?
Well your symptoms certainly suggest that. Only a hormone test will confirm.

You can buy a test for this at chemists. It will measure the hormone level in your urine. However a blood test at your doctor will give a complete hormone profile which I have found more satisfactory.
Reply:My sister has all the same symptoms. Her Dr. said yes. go see your Dr.
Reply:This could be the case and that you might get an early menopause.Go to your doctor for advice.

Am I allergic to wheat- have had bad stomachaches and nausea for years anytime I eat any carbs?

I have found lately if I eat wheat bread products I also get a sore throat, itchy skin and then the nausea, bad stomache with back ache, vomiting, etc that I get with all bread products, pastas. I've just lived with it because the doctor just said I was constipated and there was nothing she could do for me (even though I had told her I had just gone to the bathroom!). Can anyone give me some ideas because giving up ALL carbs is really, really hard.

Am I allergic to wheat- have had bad stomachaches and nausea for years anytime I eat any carbs?
You might have a disorder called celiac disease. People with this disease cannot tolerate foods that contain gluten, which is found in wheat, rye and oats. That does limit their carbohydrate intake, but they can tolerate potatoes and corn, as well as cereals and bread made from corn. Suggest that to your doctor, and also ask for a referral to an allergist so you can be tested for food allergies.
Reply:eat rice based carbs or corn based.
Reply:You may have something called siliac disease. Not sure of the spelling, pronounced like silly yak. It is an intolerance of wheat and other ingredients. My mother was told she had it, she really does not now, but there are tests you can be given to find out. Research this disease and find out. If you have it, you have to use gluten free foods. There are many gluten free recipes on the internet. I truly hope you can find some answers. IM me if you like.
Reply:talk 2ur doc
Reply:First, you definitely need to see an Allergist. What you're describing sounds like an allergic reaction, and it could get worse or be more serious than you think. Parachute has a good point too. I think she may be right on the money. See a doctor who specializes in these type of things. A nutritionist can also help. Most GP's have no clue about nutrition.

Also, read the ingredients on everything you eat and try removing wheat completely from your diet. Try other carbs like corn, rice or potatoes. Try to go for slower carbs like sweet potatoes and yams.

Also, find a new Doctor! Yours sounds like a total loss!
Reply:dont eat any wheat simple as!
Reply:www.viabenefits.com
Reply:I too have developed this allergy in the last 2 years..But my throat constricts and I cannot swallow. I've tried to determine if its wheat or yeast or preservatives. Some wheat doesn't bother me and some I have a severe reaction to. Also had a very severe (throat constricted)reaction to raw mushroom, pecans and Thursday subway wheat bread. I barely eat any wheat or yeast type products now. and I ate mushrooms all of my life and now I am truly frightened by them.

The interesting thing with stopping carbs the craving goes away in a few days and you use very little butter, I've lost 15 lbs.
Reply:Talk to your doctor about celiac disease, since that seems to be what you have. If the doctor doesn't want to listen, get a new doctor.

Good luck!

If you have a Welsh Corgi...?

As you know Corgi's share a lot of the same funny habits. I have a pure bred Pembroke Welsh Corgi... she is tail-less... all of the sudden, about three weeks ago, she started chasing her "tail"...she constantly does this, all day and all night long. She sits on the floor and runs in circles with her front legs trying to catch her bum with her teeth. She does have a diagnosed dry/itchy skin problem, but since this started happening out of the blue I'm beginning to worry that there might be something wrong, like worms or some other heath issue. I will be taking her to the vet soon, but I was wondering if anyone has any experience with this?

If you have a Welsh Corgi...?
Vet time. Could be worms causing rectal itching, or skin allergy which is prominent in many shepherds and causes itchiness on back. Try some deworming med, and then some cordisone or prednisone (vet prescribed) and see how that helps. Could be boredom ... do you have plenty of toys, treat-dispensing balls, exercise opportunity, chew bones, etc?
Reply:Be sure to keep that vet appointment, and if all is clear, then it sounds like it might be a compulsive disorder.

These can be caused by boredom, attention to the behavior from the owner, stress and even diet can be a cause to these OCD behaviors.

Be sure to get your dog on a food that doesn't contain corn, wheat or soy as these are all problematic. You might find the dry skin also goes away. Please visit my website on how diet can affect behavior: http://wholedogtraining.com/ and go to the articles section.
Reply:A new dog should be gotten because you want another dog, not just as a companion for your dog. And from experience, get a really mellow male dog, Corgi or other. Corgi females tend to be bossy and strong willed.

Have you considered taking her to doggy day care once a week? Before I started working from home, I took my Corgi to day care every Wednesday to break up the week and give him extra exercise. It really helped

And do keep the vet appointment just in case. You might try feeding a dog food like Avoderm or Wellness that is especially for coat problems.
Reply:My Corgi did that and had a plugged anal gland. Which apparently is common in Corgi's.

You can learn how to "unplug" the gland and do it yourself. sometimes your vet will show you. But I prefer to take my dog to the vet to deal with that.

Hopefully it is nothing. Bless you and your Corgi.
Reply:I've had my Corgi do this on a much smaller scale. It's usually when he has an itch on his lower back. Because of their long backs, it can be very hard to reach back there. So I'm guessing that she has some sort of skin irritation back there. You should take her to the vet to get it checked out.

Needing a diagnosis?

I am currently recieving treatment at the hospital for an abdominal pain. The symptoms i have are, diahorrea, constipation, really bad abdominal pain, itchy skin rash. These are the main ones. Iv had this for around 5 years now. When i was around 7 i had an inflammed bowel but no further tests were done because this went away. also at around 13 i was wrongly diagnosed with having an appendicitis..again this went away. It's realy getting me down %26amp; i really just want an answer soon, i have to wait till feb to have results of my FIRST tests %26amp; there will be many more to come i feel. Does anyone have any ideas? please get back to me asap! if you need to know anything else feel free to mail me x

Needing a diagnosis?
I'm afraid that only a DR can diagnose you properly! i would not want to give you a wrong diagnosis. Just wait for the results to come they will have to obviously find out whats wrong with you.
Reply:Does this seem to come and go?

Does all the lotion in the world not seem to help?

It's a long shot, but my Ex use to have symptoms like yours ( and others , you might have more that you don't realize are realted) she had lupus.

If they are truly stumped, have your Dr's do the test. Can't hurt, may help.

Take Care and God Bless You !
Reply:My guess is either the silver or the shiitake.

Next time, don't take them all together. Take one at a time, and wait a few hours between each, then you'll be able to figure out which one caused the reaction.

Keep a dose of benadryl nearby to take once you do start having the reaction, it should help.

Alternatively, don't take any of them, and see your doctor. He or she can recommend an allergist, who can do a test to figure out which you are allergic to in a controlled setting. This may be a better option because if you reacted to a drug you have never taken before, you could be sensitized now and the next reaction could be much worse.

Good luck, stay healthy.
Reply:it could be any of the four products !!! maybe you should take them at different times !!

I agree with Grandma...

Take A Benydryl call Doctor.
Reply:GO TO THE DOCTOR!!!!
Reply:yuckk go to doctor. maybe bed bugs?? or allergic reaction to somethng like if u took a shower maybe the soap or the blankets u wer under or maybe even wut u ate fr dinner
Reply:take a benedryl and call the dr.
Reply:Go to the doctor. This sounds like an allergic reaction or a chemical sensitivity, although it could be an illness, some illnesses have rashes associated with them.

If this is an allergy or sensitivity this type of reaction can lead to swelling in the throat and or lungs and become life threatening. This is why you will want to see your doctor to see if she recommends any antihistimine/anti-inflamiroty type medications or recommends that you keep an epi pen in case of severe reaction.

Sometimes steriods are prescribed for such reactions and sometimes the reaction is dangerois enough that steriods are absolutely necessary but avoid taking a steroid unless it is extremely necessary because, your doctor will not tell you (may not even know) that seroid pills like prednosolone can stay in the body and mess with your hormones and supress your immune system. Good luck.

What would cause an oil fired hot water heater to give out brown water even after draining out and refilling?

The heater is less than 10 years old. It was drained when water was shut down for winter and refilled four months later. There was no water problem before this. Is currently beening drained weekly to lessen brown water. We have very hard water, but have never encountered this before. Also causes itchy skin.

What would cause an oil fired hot water heater to give out brown water even after draining out and refilling?
If you drained it and left it full of air it would have corroded, if it was not glass lined. Now, the best thing you could do would be to run a lot of water through your taps to flush it that way rather than drain it. Or hook a garden hose to the drain connection and run water for a while without emptying the heater.
Reply:It sounds like mineral build up. If you have your own well, try adding a sand filter after the pressure tank, but before your hot water heater and water softener. You can buy or rent these from Culligan Water or Rain Soft to name just two.

How do I tell if I have staph infection?

I break out on my legs with acne, and get dry itchy skin. I however have no pain. This has been since high school. I am now 25, and have been told that it may be staph infection. If i have no pain/ green puss am I safe? Or should i bite the bullet and pay for a doctor? PLEASE TAKE IN MIND I HAVE NO INSURANCE

How do I tell if I have staph infection?
Can you go to a walk in clinic? They are less expensive than a private Dr. office. I think you need to be evaluated for sure, why are you putting up with a chronic condition that might be cleared up with just a visit or two and a round of antibiotics?

And be sure to ask for a generic or lower cost prescription if it is a available.

Good luck!
Reply:Neosporin is an over the counter med. Contains antibiotic. Cheap about $7.00. 1st aid aisle. Rite Aid or Walgreens.

Look for it at www.drugstore.com for more favorable pricing.

Try that stuff first for a full 7 days. See what happens.

Linatone Plus & Natural Balance Food?

Has anyone used these products for their dogs?

What are your opinions on them?

I have a five month old chihuahua puppy and he has super dry itchy skin...

I've been thinking about changing him to Natural Balance Food but I'm not sure which (ingredients) would be best...there are like three or four different formulas

After reading the labels, I see a lot of the formulas have salmon oil or flaxseed...I'm worried that he will be getting too many fatty acids if I feed him this food plus the supplement...

Should I switch him or not, right now he is on science diet, but I've been hearing very bad things about it....

Honestly, i feel bad for my lil guy who seems to be itching and scratching all the time...I just wanna do whats best for him

Any advice on either product or anything different would be greatly appreciated by my puppy...

~Thanks~

Linatone Plus %26amp; Natural Balance Food?
The Natural Balance Ultra Premium for all life stages (I think that it is the blue bag) is a very very good food, and you probably will not need the Linatone after you start feeding it. I switched one of my dogs to it a long time ago and her coat is absolutely beautiful plus she hasn't had any skin problems since.

Science Diet is not a good brand of food, you are really just purchasing the name when you buy it (same with Iams and Eukanuba). I would switch him asap, but switch him slowly over a weeks time or else you will upset his stomach. You cannot give too many fatty acids, but you can make them fat because of them. You may want to put him on the Linatone for a few weeks to give the Natural Balance's superior formula to kick in. It will probably take at least 6 weeks for his skin to improve, but you may notice in just a few days.
Reply:We raise chihuahuas. We just the last few months switched to Nutro Natural choice for our adult dogs and Nutro ultra puppy for the little ones. It has really improved their coats and skins. They say right on the bag that it is guaranteed to do so. It is a good quality food, available in pet stores and farm supply stores.
Reply:Try switching to Avoderm dog food, chicken flavor. I currently changed my dogs diet over to that, cause I've talked to an Avoderm rep who suggested that changing to Avoderm would help my dog with the same issue of really bad itchy skin. Avoderm is different from other dog foods, because of Avacado being one of the main ingriedients. But also, try taking your dog to the vet to have their skin checked out, cause your dog could also maybe have a skin infection.
Reply:Be sure, first of all, to have a thorough physical exam done on your puppy to rule out any other problems with his skin, if you haven't already. There are many things other than food or dry skin that can cause puppies to be itchy.

I have a German shepherd with allergies. Natural Balance Venison and Brown Rice has been a Godsend for him. I've had him on it for several years. Personally, I have tried all the prescription diets we have at work, and he has done better on the Natural Balance than with any of them. I have tried Hills D/D and Z/D and Royal Canin (formerly IVD and Select Care) Duck and Potato and Venison and Potato prescription diets. This may not be the case with all dogs, of course. The fact that Natural Balance contains no by products or artificial additives is a huge plus, in my opinion. Our vets have also recommended Natural Balance to their clients. I also use a supplement called 3V Caps, an Omega 3 fatty acid supplement. It's available over the counter in capsule or liquid form. My vets have recommended a higher dose of this supplement, which I would never ever do without consulting them. Any supplement of this type can cause major diarrhea.

Natural Balance is an excellent food. If you switch, do it gradually over a week or more. I would consult your vet about which would be the best supplement to use, especially since you have such a little guy.

26 weeks pregnant and I have developed a rash?

I am 26 weeks pregnant and this morning when I woke up I found a rash on my arms, legs, back and stomach. I know you can get a itchy skin from streching but is this normal? Or do you think that that rash is unrelated to the pregnancy? The rash is red and blotchy and feels like it is on fire. Should I be worried?

26 weeks pregnant and I have developed a rash?
i don't think this has anything to do with you being pregnant, i would go and see your doctor, have you changed your washing powder? it sounds to me like "Hives" also known as urticaria. that's a allergic reaction to something and it can be anything even pollen, its easy treated and harmless. Good luck!
Reply:It sounds like an allergic reaction to something. I would evaluate changes that occured yesterday and give your doc a jingle.

Is there "A" cure for allergy sickness?

When spring season arrives the air is thick with pollens from flowers and from trees ... but that would be trouble for allergy sufferers like me ... with water eyes, sneezing, itchy skin, nasal drip, dry cough , and more... symtoms. Do they sound familiar to you?

Is there "A" cure for allergy sickness?
There is no cure for allergies. But you can get relief from antihistamines. Allergy shots are also good at controlling symptoms. Go to an allergist and get allergy tested. You then will receive shots weekly of the stuff you are allergic to. Your body will develop an immunity to the substances and your symptoms will decrease. Good luck.

Touche Eclat by Yves St Laurent....?

I've have been using this product under my eyes for ten years and for some strange reason it doesn't agree with me anymore and I got itchy skin under my eyes. I'm lost without it but my Doctor said I'll have to find another product! Can anyone recommend something similar? I've already tried one from Avon but it had a little sparkle to it and would be okay for a night out but wouldn't look good during the day. So I need something that's okay for daytime also.

Thanks.

Touche Eclat by Yves St Laurent....?
Body Shop does a version called "Lightening Touch". You can try it instore before buying and it has a moisturiser in it to protect the delicate skin under the eyes.

Reply:Bummer! Boot's No.7 at Target- It's in a long tube with a brush-like applyer and you have to click for the colour to come out-I heard it's the same thing- let me know if you can tell a difference or if it's better or worse- hope it's the one!
Reply:could it have been a faulty one? maybe don't use it until the irritation has gone down then try a it again but a different one?

If you have done this already my friend has sensitive skin and uses clique - it works well, she loves it and it looks good - pop along to boots/john Lewis etc and get some free samples
Reply:It sounds like you have developed a sensitivity to one or more of the ingredients in this product. That can happen even if they haven't changed the formula; it's happened to me with eye make-up removers. Boots No. 7 do a reasonably priced alternative, however, you may react to other brands of similar products as they are likely to contain many of the same ingredients. Clinique do a good Airbrush Concealer, but as another respondent mentioned, some time visiting the beauty counters in a dept. store may be time well spent. They should all want your business but be prepared to spend time testing a few brands. Good luck!

Allergic to Gold (nickel?) in Jewelry?

I have a ring that is 14k gold, and I've worn for the past 5 years it never bothered me. Lately it has been turning my finger/ area around it all red and itchy skin peels off its gross... I had it cleaned, and remove it whenever I cook, or wash dishes. Am I allergic to the gold (nickel/other metal) in the jewlery? If so why would it happen suddenly?

Allergic to Gold (nickel?) in Jewelry?
You could be allergic to nickel or chromium which is in 10K and some 14K gold, but not 18K gold. Both alloys are also in white gold. They are also in surgical stainless steel but are so tightly bound that most people are okay with it. But if you are concerned, switch to titanium which is very hypoallergenic. Platinum is another option. Next time you are a dermatologist, get a skin patch test for nickel and chromium. Reactions to these alloys can happen after wearing them for years with no problems.

(worked in a foundry)
Reply:Allergies do that. You need either a higher grade of gold, or switch to Platinum. Or don't wear a ring.
Reply:2 options -don't wear the jewelry or try painting it with clear nail polish. oops! option #3 -switch to titanium.
Reply:"Your skin normally doesn't react the first time it's exposed to an allergen. Instead, it can take many exposures for your skin to become sensitive to nickel. Once a nickel allergy has been established, your skin will always be sensitive to nickel. Your skin may then become inflamed, itchy or dotted with bumps or blisters within hours or days after contact with nickel. Sweating while wearing an item containing nickel can increase your chance of dermatitis." Mayo Clinic

Based on this, it is not surprising that you could have a reaction to something you have not previously. You may want to take a look at Mayo Clinic's page on Nickel allergies, as it also has photographs of what a reaction might look like and suggestions as to when to seek medical attention. Of course, consult with your medical provider for accurate diagnosis.
Reply:I used to work for a wholesale Jewellers and didnt realise that the 9ct 14ct ect

means 14percent of gold and the rest is a base metal. So the gold percentage is tiny.Try coating your Jewellery with clear nail polish where it touches the skin.

Can't sweat while working out?

Whenever I start working out I start to get itchy skin and I can't sweat. Sometimes it's so severe that I have to stop working out and take an ice cold shower. Can someone help me so that I don't have to stop working out?

Can't sweat while working out?
Wow I have almost the same problem....I don't sweat very well either and always have to be careful exercising or in hot weather not to get over heated. I get really bad headaches and quite sick feeling.

I usually find that I just have to take a little longer....instead of of going really really hard for 20 min. try to rearrange your sched so you have time to do a little lighter workout for an hour.

You'll get as much exercise but not overheat yourself.

Good luck.
Reply:go to a dermatologist man :]
Reply:Either you don't drink enough water on a daily basis or your not working out long enough or hard enough to break a sweat. Remember when ever you work out hard you sweat, always replace water lost through sweat by drinking enough water so you don't get dehydrated.
Reply:Maybe your lacking some sodium recommend you drinking gatorade. Hope that helps.

Have been asked what side effects I experienced whilst taking Lipitor.?

The side effects are aching legs and joints and tender muscles. Also lower back pain (which was there intermittently earler but much worse with Lipitor), itchy skin all over. I now feel fantastic since being off that terrible drug for approx 1 week.

Have been asked what side effects I experienced whilst taking Lipitor.?
My hubby had the same exact problem with Zocor. That crap can be really nasty. He was better within 3-4 days of stopping it.

should i be worried or not?

Should i consult my midwife or doctor?????
Go and get checked regardless of how you think you are doing its just not worth risking it, that is what the midwife and doctors are there for, go and put your mind at rest and make an appointment, you have nothing to loose, if you get the all clear fantastic, if its something that needs looking at then you can get treatment.
Reply:Yes you should call. Call.
Reply:if ya worried maybe go get checked out! its probably due to the hormone change but just be safe!
Reply:Sounds like you have oedema. Might not be a problem, but might be a sign of something else. Best get to your doctor.
Reply:I highly recommend you contact your midwife or doctor. Your symptoms sound like PIH (pregnancy induced hypertension), also known as, pre-eclampsia, which definitely requires your doctor's attention.

Please call your doctor. Good luck.
Reply:High Blood pressure, get it checked out as soon as you can or you could be in trouble, both of you!
Reply:I don't think those things are much to be worried about as I've had some similiar experiences off and on. But it would probably ease your mind if you just went ahead and called anyway. Good luck. :)

Do family doctors review your medical records from clinincs and other doctors?

I have had to go to the doctors alot this past year but it was just for little things, like I had several uti's, went a few times becase I had itchy skin and stuff but everything is better now but i had gone to the doc like 15 times in the past year.

so im just wondering when i see my family doctor next if my family doc will ask my questions about all the times that i went to the doc or as long as the condition is not bugging me anymore then she wont ask me about it. i dont want her to think im crazy for going to the clinic so much and i dont want her to ask me about it.

Do family doctors review your medical records from clinincs and other doctors?
no, not usually. practically never
Reply:No. Not even "practically ever." NEVER. They have no access to your medical records from any other doctor. You would have to release the information to the family doctor. They can't get it without your permission.
Reply:If you went somewhere entirely different then she wont have access. She has to have you fill out a sort of pemission form to get records from other places, she wont know unless you tell her. And if she does know for whatever reason, if she brings it up just tell her you dont want to talk about it. She cant make you do anything
Reply:I don't think they do. They need your permission to do that, normally you have to sign something that says they can.
Reply:there is no centralized location for an individuals medical records. if Dr A wants to see the records from Dr. B, A must request them from B. If Dr A is working with Dr C on treating a certain condition they "might" share the same medical records or close to that.
Reply:Well you need to be the active voice in your medical care. Dr.can look at your other drs information only if they have it to lok at. A release of information must be signed and filed out by you requesting that a dr gets a copy of the record. If you don't open your mouth and speak the problems your having they won't think its a serious issue and then it wont be addressed and treated. Have you thought about seeing a urologists. THere is medication that can help prevent UTI's.

But again its your responsibility as a patient to speak your medical problems to your dr so that the dr can help u and treat it or work with other drs to help u. i truely wish u the best.
Reply:Unless you told the clinics who your family doctor is, or they are all part of the same practice group, they won't get the information.

You need to give them written permission for your records to be sent to your doctor. If you want him/her to know, the best thing to to is tell him at your next visit.

I think the biggest question is, why did you go to the doctor 15 times? Were you really sick, or were you just worried something was wrong? If you were just worried, there is a condition that causes you to be afraid you are sick all the time. Your doctor can help you feel better and less worried.
Reply:well, they will ask but if you lie and they don't have access to your medical records from the other offices they won't know. they can't get your medical records unless you sign a form to have them sent.

but, having said that please don't lie to your doctor about your medical history- even if you think it's not important, it could be. lying serves no purpose other than to impede our ability to treat you. it's annoying and we can usually tell when a patient is feeding us a load of bull. we're not here to judge you, just help you feel better!
Reply:It is a good idea to always have your medical records transferred when changing doctors, that way, your new doctor have the opportunity to know your medical history. You may tell your new doctor about what is going on, but some doctors are very skeptical and like to have the medical records in their hands before giving out medications, especially narcotics. THere are many people in the world who are addicted to pain medications, narcotics and who just like to take medication. Doctors must protect themselves and they do this by reading your medical history.

Remember, they can only read your medical history if you sign a medical release form that they can send to your doctor, so make sure you do this!
Reply:No, they don't look at medical records from other drs unless you give them written permission to do so. With insurance that is a bit of a different situation because it has to do with paying the dr when it comes to certain situations and trying to get coverage.
Reply:Usually, unless you ask that your records be sent to your family doctor, they have no idea that you have been to a clinic or other doctor.

Can a doctor rule out cancer with a simple cbc test?

I've got swollen glands on my neck, behind my ear, on my upper back (close to base of neck). I've had itchy skin all over, some increasing breathing problems, and intensifying fatigue. My mother had Hodgkin's Disease around my age (I'm 27). My doctor seems to laugh me off, and says my blood tests are normal.

Can a doctor rule out cancer with a simple cbc test?
I can appreciate your apprehension and concern regarding your symptoms of swollen glands, itchiness of your skin, some difficulty breathing, and intensifying fatigue especially since your mother had Hodgkin's Disease in her late twenties. You are quite right that a normal CBC blood test is not "the Gold Standard" for ruling out the diagnosis of Hodgkin's. "The Gold Standard"is a lymph node biopsy. By the way, Medical Research indicates that genetic, immunological, and viral factors interact to cause Hodgkin's in a yet unknown process. I am a Registered Nurse Educator who taught nursing for over 25 years so provide my information from approved Medical sources and resources. Hodgkin's does have specific blood markers characterized by proliferation of abnormal histiocytes called "Reed-Sternberg cells". These Reed-Sternberg cells , a specific diagnostic feature, are malignant histiocytes with large, multinucleated cells. These cells are often seen in lymph node biopsy material BEFORE THEY APPEAR IN PERIPHERAL BLOOD OR IN THE BONE MARROW. I capitalized the previous statement for intended emphasis;i.e. a negative blood test whether a CBC or specific evaluation of the blood for these abnormal histiocytes called Reed-Sternberg cells is of little value given your symptoms and Medical History. As you are probably aware, patient complaints may include weight loss, fatigue, weakness, fever, chills, rapid heart beat, and night sweats. Generalized pruritus (itchiness)without skin lesions, cough, difficulty breathing, and difficulty swallowing may also be present depending on the type of lymph node involvement. My RN experience and training taught me that peripheral blood analysis including special blood tests, lymph node biopsy, and radiological evaluation are ALL important means of evaluating Hodgkin's Disease. Since you do appear to have significant signs of Lymphatic Disease I think that it is time you were evaluated by a physician who specializes in this area of Medicine and who has had lots of experience diagnosing these kind of diseases. I would start with an Oncologist and preferably one who has specialized in lymphatic and hematologic (blood) diseases.( I had two large malignant breast tumors each containing a different type of cancer and was told that everything was fine as a result of a normal CBC and a normal Mammogram) So I congratulate you for reaching out to others in your path to obtain healing for yourself. Good luck to you and God's blessings. Please make that next Medical appointment as soon as you are able to do so.
Reply:It is possible but if you have concerns get a second opinion.
Reply:yes....the test counts the white blood cells for either cancer or AIDS....so it is a effective test.
Reply:can,t wait to read your replys you get,,,docters can be real pains them selves..good luck to you
Reply:No

you need to get a biopsy for a definitive diagnosis

Hodgkin's lymphoma must be distinguished from non-cancerous causes of lymph node swelling (such as various infections) and from other types of cancer. Definitive diagnosis is by lymph node biopsy (removal of a lymph node for pathological examination). Blood tests are also performed to assess function of major organs, to detect lymphoma deposits or to assess safety for chemotherapy. Positron emission tomography (PET) is used to detect small deposits that do not show on CT scanning. In some cases a Gallium Scan may be used instead of a PET scan.
Reply:The blood test is probably pretty good for this type of cancer, the fact that your blood is normal is a good thing. That still does not answer why you have all those swollen glands and everything else. Maybe it is time to see another doctor, maybe one that did not graduate at the bottom of his/her class. No doctor should laugh this off.
Reply:I asked a question very similar see my answer from a doctor

the answer states that a cbc can not rule out hodgkins they need a biopsie of your lymph nodes
Reply:It is no laughing matter, but Hodgkins disease is not genetic, and if your doctor says that the CBC is normal, don't worry about it. There are lots of bugs with the same symptoms, and worrying will only make them worse.

Of course, you entitled to get a second opinion if you are not satisfied. Personally, I would advise it, if for nothing else than your own peace of mind.
Reply:As a general rule, if a doctor uses just the CBC as a diagnostic tool, he or she is a fool. With swollen glands, the only thing they will find out is if there is a possible infection in your body. Could be an elevated white count, but is it from the swollen glands, or some other infectious process going on in your body.

There are test for cancer markers and if your comfortable with your doctor, fine. If not, get a second opinion and don't waste a lot of time doing it. Something is telling you it isn't right, so, get on with a second opinion.
Reply:u cant rule out cancer just by cbc....u need biopsy of those glands if they are consistently swollen...
Reply:A normal CBC does not rule out lymphoma.

However, lymphoma may cause a lower platelet count. Occasionally, lymphoma cells do appear in the peripheral blood, but it is not likely they will be at high enough levels to be detected by routine testing. Although Reed -Sternberg cells are diagnostic, they are generally seen in the bone marrow - in the peripheral blood I have seen very early cells - blasts - the same as in leukaemia, but again uncommonly. To be certain, a biopsy of one of the affected nodes would need to be done. Most lymph node swellings are due to viral illnesses, which may well be apparent in a routine CBC as a raised lymphocyte count or by the presence of atypical lymphocytes.

Consider this - if you had such an advanced stage of lymphoma that nodes would swell on several parts of your body, your CBC would unlikely to be normal. There would likely have been a low haemoglobin and platelet count, and possibly supression of other white cell lines such as neutrophils. I can't be certain, but this sounds like a viral condition.

This, of course, is general advice only. A doctor will advise you better (possibly differently), because they have you there in person. If you're not happy with your doctor, ask to speak to an Oncologist or a Haematological Pathologist at a hospital laboratory, they have the knowledge and experience.

I hope this helps

HELP ME ?!?! I am 5 months pregnant & I have a bf(my babys father).........?

that is doing drugs ! HEROIN..i believe.. he lies %26amp; says he is not doing anything but he disappears for a few hours.. doesnt call or anything ..%26amp; has all the symtoms.. restricted pupils, red eyes, itchy skin, nausea, lowered sex drive, %26amp; a sense of euphoria..for a few hours after he disappears. Then he crashes %26amp; is tired....da da da...Anyway, I didn't even notice all these things ..my dad, cousin %26amp; her bf pointed this out. As I put things together they added up , what am I to do?! I want to go to Walgreens buy a drug test make him take it ..if he fails keep it %26amp; take it to court .. ..How should I approach this?... I am still with him .. we don't live together %26amp; I 've tried talking to him about it , he always says now is not the time. ANyway, How should I approach this w/out of EXPLODING!I don't want my child ever in his care if he is doing this stuff. Its not good ! What should I do.. I just recently started keeping a mini journal..I can't stick around much longer but I want evidence!

HELP ME ?!?! I am 5 months pregnant %26amp; I have a bf(my babys father).........?
make sure you don't live with him and don't worry. When you go to court tell them your concerns and ask for a test.
Reply:you really think asking a bunch of strangers on the internet is gonna get you answers???
Reply:As soon as the baby is born file for sole custody. Go down to your local child support prosecuting attorneys office and file court against him. Then when you get in front of the judge as for them to drug test both of you. This way it doesnt look like you are doing it out of spite. Good luck. If all else fails get a restraining order to keep him away from the baby..
Reply:That is really sad for the baby. The baby is the true victim in all of this and did not ask to be brought into this situation.

It is too bad that people dont think about the consequences of all their actions before they do things that bring innocent souls into this world.
Reply:Keep your distance.

For your babies and your sake.

Right now added stress is the worst thing for you.

Just keep well away. If he comes near you call

the police. You dont need the hassle and right now

your main concern is your baby. Either he'll stop

by himself or he'll die. Quite basically.

I know people who have done heroine and I've

seen how they react when questioned. Its not

a good situation for a pregnant lady.

Take care of yourself and your baby.

and good luck.
Reply:That's a tough thing to do really. Most people would take offense to such a thing, regardless of approach. Unfortunately, the only way I can really think of to avoid that at the moment is to lie...which I don't consider any better. You would have to say it's a health inspection of sorts.
Reply:It sounds like to me you would be better off being a single mother than the child having a father that is on drugs. How he has been with his other children should show you that he isn't capable of being a good father while he is on the drugs.
Reply:right, its time to grow up fast - no matter how old or young you are!!!!

never mind whether you've got evidence or not, just get rid of him immediately and save yourself a lot of trouble and heartache!!!

he's obviously not father material, and you certainly do not want him around your baby!! or yourself, for that matter.

if he's going to just keep disappearing for hours at a time anyway, what kind of life would that give you when you need support with your baby, never mind the fact that he 's perhaps on drugs.

follow your instinct, you'd be more right than you'd like!!

keep away, and sort any court related things out if and when they crop up !!!!!!!
Reply:Well asking a bunch of stragers on the internet does help you!!!! But anyways, You cant force him to take a drug test! But if you end up in court and reuqest one, he has to take it! You need to go ahead and get statmenst and things from the other childs mother and when you go to court bring up his past situations! The Judge will look into them! And also Im not sure if your wanting to or not! But If your not wanting to give him any rights of the Baby, Do Not give the Baby his last name or Do Not let him put his name on the Birth Certificate! Believe it or not, these 2 things make it easier for him to get rights! And if he changes his life style in the end you can always easily put him on the Birth certificate and give the Baby his last name if wanted! I hope evrything works out for you! I was basically in the same situation about 2 years ago and My Dumb *** decided to change in the end after not getting to see the baby! Good Luck!
Reply:The first thing is not to put him on the birth certificate. If he wants to have rights he will have to go to court to get them. At that time you could bring up your concerns and ask the court to drug test you. Keep a record, in your journal of the thing he does that make you worry, you may need it. If he does have a problem you won't be able to talk to him. He will either get mad or avoid your questions, he WILL NOT ever want to talk about it. I would leave him asap and if you are concerned about the other child you can always call the dept. of human services, child protective services and they will check him out. This may also be good for your child because it shows he has problems with the one he already has and would be more likely to have problems caring for your child. Good luck.
Reply:I would talk to him first. I would want to give him a chance to try to clean up his act. Get yourself calmed down, maybe write down everything you want to discuss with him, and then wait for a time when you think he is sober. Give him an ultimatum. Then, if he doesn't change is ways, talk to a lawyer. YOu can't really worry about his other kids, that is up to their mothers, but you do have your own baby to worry about.
Reply:Fist of all you need to not be near him as much if his using those kinds of drugs and not have sex w/him any more for your baby's health and it might be hard for you but honey you don't need that kind of men by you that has other babies w/other women what would be your baby's future just worry about you and your baby for now good luck =-)
Reply:the records you are keeping will help you alot and if there is some one else around him alot have them keep a record of all his actions and if the records show the same thing from two or more it cant be blown of it will be better for you. but the sooner you getvaway the better for your baby.and its work for a family member of mine, the way to get his pee is to tell him your ob needs a sampel to check for an infection so i wont pass it on to the baby and he needs to give you the sample the day of your appt. it should work cause guys are pretty stupid about what we go threw when pregers..good luck or come up with something he might believe your dr. wants pee for.
Reply:First of all by telling us about all of the incidents that have happened it really sounds like you don't want him around, and if you don't then break-up with him,Second of all file for sole custody and tell him that when and if he gets clean you will gladly let him see your baby. And last but not least it sounds like he already has more kids so it is highly unliklely that he will change get yourself and your child away from him ASAP and GOOD LUCK!
Reply:If I were in your situation I would not wait until the baby is born to take action. Keeping a jouranl of his actions is definitely a good idea. I would speak with an attorney now. There is legal aid that may assist you if you cannot afford one. Also, if you are not married-when the baby is born, the father has NO automatic rights. It is unfortunate for fathers who are good with their children but in your case it may help you. Even if you file for child support, and even if he proves he is the father he MUST obtain an attorney to get legal rights to see his child. Without doing that you do not have to let him see the baby-and if he is on drugs that is wise. If he tries for legal rights through an attorney, your journal will come in handy as well as the statements from your family. Stick to your guns and do what is best for your baby!! Reply:here my e mail it KELLY.A.HEARNS@nuim.ie. first things first my case my not have been as serious but when i was preg my bf was addicted to a few drugs though not heroin. it was anawful time for me and since being off them our relationship is brill and he has changed alot. hes a brill dad and bf. when people are on drugs they see you as the enemy. you may think you are helping him by being there but he doesnt care truely if you are or not. the best thing for you is to follow my advice it has worked brill for me. it has to be his decision to quit. i left my partner while he got help, even though i was their to take phone calls and tell him i supported him i was not actually present its not good for you, your baby or your son. you need to tell him that drugs cant be part of your kids lives nad he can choose to get clean for his kids or leave you cant stop him either way. i told my bf was the first thing he wanted his newborn to see, his drugged up face? he said no. i told my bf family all about hid drug habits, they were unaware, although i thought how can they not notice. that made a big difference it wasnt just me nagging him he had his mother too, together we all helped him. you need to do that. you cant fight this alone, and your kids are your peiority. i know at this time you feel vulnerable but you have to let him heal without the pressure of a relatioonship, you also have to be the best mother and put your babies first, if you dont your as bad as he is. get him into rehab and counselling. he can do it. my bf constantly even after a year begs if he can just have weed becasue compared to the rest of the drugs he was takin it is mild, but i have to keep saying no, he knows its me and his babies or the drug. he been clear a year and a half and doing fantasticly well. plus i share the keeping an eye on him with his mum. your bf is a very sick man and is not of sane mind so at this point he is dangerous to your kids and he is not the man he was, my bf blamed me for everything when he came off the drugs he blamed me for him takin it, they do that they blame everyone else for their own problem so be prepared for that. xxx REMOVE HIM!RIGHT NOW!
Reply:Well as long as she have enough proof and evidence that he is doing this than you have nothing to worry about. You also should find a good lawyer that will defend so well that they will take the child custody away from him and make attend rehab until he can get his self together. Good Luck!

Is this an allergy?

i get an itchy skin rash almost every 2weeks. the doc always prescribes cetrizine for what he considers an allergy and a gel (Eurax) for the itching. I also get very painful swellings on the face which r not acne (tho I used to have acne a few years back) and do not contain pus. They usually go away after about a week leaving a scar (not black head).

Of late (3months) I have been getting light spots on my face which appear for months and sometimes disappear (one has persisted). I also got a scar on my forehead where I never had a wound before. Has anyone ever experienced this?

I stay in a hot and dusty environment.

Is this an allergy?
I find it odd that it occurs about every two weeks. The hot and dusty environment could explain it, if the rash were chronic, and not every two weeks. You said "the doc". Is this your family doctor or a dermatologist? And it's only on your face? If you haven't seen a dermatologist, that would be my first suggestion. If it is a derm, get a second opinion. Are there any allergy specialists where you live? That could also be an option. But to save money on running to doctors, I personally, would try a good, non irritating cleanser ( like neutrogena)and follow with a mild moisturizer like Ponds for faces. If this doesn't help, continue to pursue it. Some disorders/diseases can cause rashes, such as the typical "butterfly rash". A rash that appears like a butterfly shape across the face, as seen with a systemic immune disorder known a Lupus.

Is it possible to develop an allergy to alcohol?

For the past three years, I have been an incredibly hard drinker. I could easily drink the better part of a liter of vodka, not be sick, and wake up the next day with a managable hangover. About three months ago, this all changed suddenly. Now whenever I have more than two beers, I wake up the next morning violently ill. I have frequent heartburn, constant nausea, and itchy skin if I have had any alcohol in the past 24 hours. Have I developed an allergy to alcohol? I've tried only drinking beer, or wine, or liqour to see if it was a particular kind, but they all make me feel wretched. What does this mean?

Is it possible to develop an allergy to alcohol?
It's not allergy derived by alcohol, the fact is that the liver who is responsible to metabolize all kinds of things such as the vitamins, proteins, carbohydrates and is the one responsible to produce enzymes to digest food and drinks maybe you have a burn or hurt liver that isn't metabolizing alcohol the same way you have been doing for the past three years, because you gave your liver overwork and your liver doesn't process the same way the amounts of alcohol you have drink for the past 3 years and your liver doesn't produce the same quantity or amount of enzymes to digest it and that's why you are feeling all those symptoms!

A possible solution to your problem is to stop drinking indefinetely because if you don't cease drinking your liver problem could get worse and develop another illness called "cirossis" and with that illness you liver will not process properly not only drinks but food will be not digested the same way you do know! Drink pure water and eat vegetables and do a healthy diet to repair your liver functions and take digestive enzymes pills to help you and your liver to properly create enzymes to process food and drink!

Good Luck And Get Well!
Reply:For the love of God, I hope not!
Reply:If my grandmother had more than 1 glass of wine, her palms would turn a bright red and would itch for hours. The doctor said she was alergic to alcohol (in her case red wine) and she should pay attention to the signs because it could lead to a type of anaphlactic shock.
Reply:Alcohol can cause a variety of immediate adverse effects on the body. Studies show that some people are more sensitive to these effects than others are — although this doesn't mean that they have an alcohol allergy. A true allergic reaction involves the immune system.

Alcohol can cause headache, rapid heartbeat and nausea. Some people are especially sensitive to the stomach-irritating effects of alcohol and may develop heartburn, abdominal pain and even vomiting. Alcohol can also increase blood flow to parts of the body, such as the skin and the lining of the nose. This may result in warm, red, sometimes itchy skin, as well as nasal congestion. Rarely, a person may have sensitivity to the preservatives used in some wines and beers.

Many people of Asian descent experience an unusual flushing reaction after drinking alcohol — even in very small amounts. This is caused by a genetic disorder in which the body is unable to break down alcohol completely. Some research suggests that people who experience alcohol flush reaction may be at increased risk of alcohol-related conditions, such as cancer of the esophagus and liver disease.

The only solution to all of these problems is to avoid alcohol
Reply:it might be ya body trying to get use to it all
Reply:Some people are more allergic to certain types of alchohol than others. They're based from grains, herbs, and percolated with spices of various types. There is also a condition whereby an individual does not have the gene present to break down the alcohol and the body will become very red and flushed. Often called the "Asian flush." See a doctor check this forum because it sounds like something other than just a simple allergy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!http://www.medhelp.org/forums/addiction/...
Reply:It means that your body is trying to tell you something. ;)

I have heard that you can become allergic to alcohol. Although think about it, wouldn't alcoholism and alcoholic poisoning be considered a type of alcoholic allergy?
Reply:Your body is trying to tell you to lay off alcohol. You may have an allergy but more likely your body has been so abused by alcohol it rejects it anyway it can.
Reply:Yes, and I am the special one. My symptoms are amnesia, headache and vomiting. Other than that I do not know. I have amnesia remember!
Reply:Sure you could have developed an allergy to alcohol. Sucks to be you man. Try going without for a few days see if you get the symptoms. If not, have a few drinks, if symptoms recur you probably are allergic.
Reply:maybe its time for you to stop for a while....and its better if u see a doctor k...
Reply:Do you want it straight up or...., jokes aside. Everyone is allergic to alcohol, but some are getting away with it easier. As you said you have been drinking hard over a period of 3 years, I say you were on your way to become an alcoholic, and a damaged one also. You know, all we drink goes through our liver and kidneys, and that is where the first signs for alcohol abuse will show. At least it did for me. You don`t say how old you are, but as a rule, the younger you are, the worse. However, as you have control, you can easy fix all problems. You gotta stay of the booze, a good while, I am talking months if not a year or two. Your body will, if you eat right and exercise a bit everyday, heal it self. And you can start it all over. I don`t wanna preach or anything, but be aware, hard drinking only takes you one way, and that is a way I hope you don`t take. Anyway, good luck and peace and love from Norway

How debilitating is Lupus....SLE? Am I going to die early? Tell me what you know, Please!?

When I was first diagnosed 2 years, ago...I was hopeful because I'd read lupus is manageable, etc. But, in these two years I've had to have both knees replaced ( I'm 40 ), itchy skin rashes that last for weeks or months, and profound fatigue.

Should I expect things to ever get better? I want to. But, it's not looking that great.

I need to realistically know what to expect. I need to prepare myself. Please share what you know with me.

Thanks!

Do the best you can with what you have. Don't let it get thebest of you. and yes unfortunately it will take over.. but when can not be determined. they are still learning alot about the disease.. get all the literature you can on it. Huge shedding problem?!?!?

my cat has always shedded a lot of hair...she sheds mostly on her back near her butt. that's her favorite place to be scratched...could this be an itchy-skin problem, if so, what? or just a simple shedding problem...if so, can i have some good remedies?

Huge shedding problem?!?!?
1. Take her to the vet. They are the best people to tell you what do to help you kitty.

Your vet will do several different tests. Look to see if your kitty has fleas. He might switch your kitties diet or offer you skin testing to find out if she is allergic to anything.

2. You could try switching her to Science Diet Sensitive Skin. It has a lot of Omega 3 fatty acids, and a lower Omega 6's.
Reply:Skin diseases would be easy to figure out. Scaly skin, bald patches, redness, swelling. Go to your favorite pet shoppe and purchase a shedding comb. This really helps to keep the house from turning into a giant hair ball. Have a purrrfect year.
Reply:Brush her daily. My cat also gets flaky dry skin in the same spot. The vet told us to use neosporin, it's safe and it works great!
Reply:I doubt it is a major skin problem. Cats shed loads of hair naturally- it is part of their lifestyle. If you pet it in a certian area frequently, maybe it sheds more thier becuase it is pet their more often. If not, maybe it is dry skin. Check to see if it has dandruff in its fur. My cat had that. We took her to the vet and the vet said that it was only dry skin, and it would eventually get better. It did.
Reply:Shedding: A natural process

Face it, cats shed. Shedding is the result of the natural turn-over of a cat’s coat. In some cats, particularly those that spend time outdoors, shedding is related to the light-dark cycle. Spring shedding is needed to lose the thick winter cover, and fall shedding occurs in preparation for growing a new warm coat. Other cats shed year-round. Indoor cats tend to shed year-round because we leave our lights on in the home until late, and on irregular cycles so the cat’s system is tricked into thinking the seasons are always changing, thus the loss of the natural rhythm of the seasonal shedding seen in outdoor cats.

Certain breeds have been purported to not shed: the Cornish Rex and Devon Rex have short, fine fur that results in less noticeable shedding, and the hairless Sphynx is actually covered in a fine down that won’t shed. This results in less noticeable fur accumulation around the house, but since allergies are usually caused by contact with saliva and dander (fine skin flakes, like dandruff), these cats may not be hypoallergenic.

So, what can you do to minimize the fur tumbleweeds floating around your home? Brushing and combing your cat on a regular basis is the most important control method. It will also decrease hairball frequency, help you keep an eye on your cat’s skin and coat for potential problems such as skin infections and bald areas, and is a fun and relaxing activity for both you and your cat. It is never too early to start brushing, but is important to start sessions slowly, and give your cat treats to reinforce calm behavior during grooming.

The style of brush will depend on your cat’s coat. For example, short-coated breeds may do best with soft brushes and a flea comb, which has short fine teeth that are close together. The flea comb may not be needed for fleas, but is a great tool to pull out dead hair. Long-coated breeds that tend to get matted (thick clumps of knotted of fur) may do better with wire “slicker” brushes and a comb with widely spaced teeth. If matting is severe, consult your veterinarian, as they may recommend clipping your cat as a less traumatic way to remove all of those knots. A longhaired cat that resists brushing may benefit from being professionally groomed several times a year.

There are many products marketed to decrease the amount of shedding. These include fish oil-based vitamins and a number of different sprays and creams that you apply to the skin. None of these products work miracles, and so are used to supplement regular brushing. Proper nutrition can help to keep skin and hair healthy and this keeps the hair cycle normalized, minimizing shed hair. Proper overall oil, vitamin, mineral and amino acid (protein subunits) balance in the diet is important for normal skin, nails and hair so feed a high quality diet. Omega fatty acids help keep skin inflammation at bay, and a cat that is less dry and irritated will scratch less, and thus less hair will be groomed and scratched/chewed off.

In summary, shedding is a natural process that all cat owners must eventually come to terms with. Frequent brushing is the most important way to control shedding, and a good vacuum and lint brush (or several) will keep you from looking like a tumbleweed yourself!

.

A flea comb is one tool that can be used to strip out dead hair from the coat to help reduce shedding onto furniture.
Reply:i would like to know too cause we have a cat who loses a lot of hair.

My dog is itching after applying K9 Advantix Topical Prevention for Flea, Tick and Mosquitoes, help?

I applied Advantix according to the directions and two days later my dog started itching and chewing on her fur on her sides. I gave her a good bath and she is still itching. Is there anything else I can do.

I always used Frontline but my new vet doesn't sell that brand. I was leary about trying something new since by dog had no problems with the other. The vet said most his clients use Advantix and have no problems.

I'm going to take that stuff back to him and get Frontline for the next application. In the meantime what can I do about my poor dog,s itchy skin? I heard even soap won't wash that stuff off. I'm wondering if that stuff is bad for the dog?

Does Advantix get into the dogs bloodstream. Some vets have told me "no" and some say "yes." Which is it? If anyone knows something about Advantix or has a dog with a bad reaction to it please let me know.

My dog is itching after applying K9 Advantix Topical Prevention for Flea, Tick and Mosquitoes, help?
I believe Advantage and Advantix are non-systemic, but I'm not 100% sure since I'm not so familiar with this brand as I am with Frontline. Frontline is non-systemic.

No flea product on earth can claim to never, ever have caused a reaction in any animal. I'd say you and your dog got unlucky - stick with Frontline if that's what your used to, as it definitely works!

I'd advise finding another vet just for the flea treatment if your current doesn't stock Frontline - Frontline can be sold over the counter so you only need to pop in. This is safer than buying online - beware of the discounted prices, you don't know how old your product is, how it's been stored/shipped or if it's even the genuine article!

Reply:Advantix can cause irritations in some dogs. Yours sounds like one who just cant use this medication. Yes please bring it back to your vet and tell them what has happened.

Get some Frontline and then use that.

Poor dog!

I use it without any problems but that does not mean that your dog can use it too. As far as I know it does get into the blood stream just like Frontline.
Reply:could be reaction to fleas, could be reaction to bathing and application of advantix.. hmmm... try a warm water thorough rinse and see what happens... I also like Frontline Plus,, you CAN buy it online.. from the Doctors Foster and Smith website ( it is cheaper than the 1800petmeds website)

I Heard about renal insufficiency want to know if my symptom mean it a good possibility that this is what i h
The symptoms you describe are general and for a doctor to determine your medical problem " if any , I hope not " he has to do some examination and lab tests, go to a GP" general practitioner" or a family doctor first.

also if you want some extra reading about renal insufficiency try the Health Information Center : http://google.com/coop/cse?cx=0071853080... where you get health information from top trusted websites.
Reply:You do have a couple of symptoms that could be, the itchy skin and light urine. However, I hope the light urine is from drinking adequate liquids, we should all have light urine if we are drinking enough.

The itchy skin could also be diabetes, or numerous skin conditions. And the pain in your lower back could be a bladder or kidney infection, which normally does not result in permanent damage. See you doctor as soon as possible, hopefully nothing serious is wrong, but you will know for sure.

If you do need a doctor that specializes in kidney problems you would need to see a nephrologists.

Good Luck! - - and keep drinking lots. All of our kidneys need liquids to be their best.
Reply:You have to see a nephrologist. (I think that's how it is spelled). My sister has had renal insufficiency since she was 2 years old, she is now 27. She had a kidney transplant a few years ago. I am not exactly sure if those are all symptoms, but it would be a good idea to go directly to a Dr. and see what tests you can take in order to discard this as a problem or in order to get a treatment. Don't worry, though...It is not good to be feeding your imagination until a Dr. sees you. You may only have an infection in your urine tract. Good wishes to you!
Reply:The kidneys have a number of important functions. When they fail, many different things can go wrong. In CRI, the kidneys slowly lose their ability to function normally. This means that they concentrate urine, conserve salt and water, and lose the ability to excrete wastes. Their role in the growth process is also compromised, which can lead to growth failure.

One of the reasons for this growth failure centers on vitamin D, a nutrient that is activated by the kidneys. Activated vitamin D helps the body absorb calcium from foods, and also helps the bones absorb the right amount of calcium that will enable them to grow. When the kidneys are impaired, they are unable to activate vitamin D, and the bones cannot get enough calcium. Consequently, the growth process is interrupted. It's easy to see how poor nutrition can also contribute to growth failure in young people with CRI.

Often, the signs and symptoms of chronic renal insufficiency aren't evident until after serious damage has already occurred. As CRI progresses, the kidneys may fail to the point where either kidney dialysis (a medical procedure used to remove waste products from the bloodstream) or kidney transplantation becomes necessary to keep the patient alive.

Although a kidney transplant can return a child’s growth rate to normal, by that time growth potential may already have been lost. That is why therapy with growth hormone prior to kidney transplantation is an important component of the treatment strategy for chronic renal insufficiency.
