Does Witch Hazel help stop itching?

I was dx with Lupus a few weeks ago and have been itching like crazy! Someone told me to rub a cotton ball soaked with Witch Hazel on the itchy skin and it would relive the itch. Has anyone ever heard of this?

Does Witch Hazel help stop itching?
yes! Witch Hazel is wonderful. If you look around you might be able to find wipes of it. I haven't heard of it being used for Lupus but I know it helped me with stitches that itched really bad. It also relieves burning. I read on a site that someone with Lupus said it didn't help them, but the reason was b/c the itching felt more like it was under the skin in the nerves. So the witch hazel will probably only help if it is external itching.
Reply:do the same with vinegar it is really good
Reply:call your doctor, many over the counter products are good for some people but may not be good for people with serious illnesses.
Reply:yes that does work good,
Reply:I used witchhazel when I had a temporary colostomy. It gave a soothing feeling to the tender area around the stoma. I think it was used more as a cleaning agent as opposed to a itching healer. I suppose it would work well on itching problems, too. It's certainly worth a try. Good luck.
