Allergic to cigarette smoke?

so i'm allergic to cigarette smoke. If i'm near someone who's smoking my throat gets soar, my eyes itch and tear up, my nose stuffs up and I get congested. Oh and itchy skin.

So, whenever I am near someone who is smoking I move away, or walk around.

my problem is, I also seem to be allergic to the smell left behind. Is this possible. For example, I cannot read a book if it smells like smoke. And I can't sit near anyone who smokes, or I get all stuffed up. This is a problem in church and school classes....has anyone had this problem and how did u deal with it?

Allergic to cigarette smoke?
Yes I also have this and I have to take an antihistamine over the counter called Loratadine which if taken once a day always works for me.
Reply:It's all in your brain. Yeah, I know, thumbs down for me and all...
Reply:absolutely avoiding it is the only thing I can do-even if it seems rude.
Reply:I too am hypersensitive to cigarette smoke. Any smoke filled environment makes my eyes burn and water profusely and I get stuffy. People think I'm crying! It's that bad. I just have to stay away from smoke period. It's funny how you can smell even the faintest smell of smoke. Can you believe that if someone in the car ahead of me is smoking with their window down (car can be stopped or moving), I can pick up that cigarette smell in my vents! No its not in my head 'cause sometimes I don't know where its coming from until I see a puff out the window or see someone toss a cigarette but out the window of a moving car. There seems to be no escape.
Reply:I just stare angrily at the person and cough loudly.

If that fails, having a loud discussion with friends on the hazards of smoking seems to do the trick.

*wink*

  1. I have a similar problem, I've had Eczema since I was a child. I'm a smoker myself but i've notice If i'm in a particularly smokey room or the smoke tickles my face as I smoke my skin dries out. It's so bad that people can smoke in another room with the door closed and after a few minutes (around the same time as you begin to smell it) my neck arms and face all tingle and burn my left nipple is the best indicator because it burns and tingles. Strange.
