Bathing my great dane puppy?

How often should I bathe my 8 week old pup? She'll be an inside dog so I don't think that she'll get very dirty. I was also wondering if its okay to give dogs an oatmeal bath to soothe itchy skin.

Reply:I would only bath when it's necessary (when she stinks) - no more then 2 times a month. Be sure to use baby shampoo or a special shampoo for dogs. Also be sure to put a special lube in the eyes before giving a bath to protect her eyes
Reply:First, you should wait atleast 2~3 more weeks before you bath her in any type of dog shampoo. You can go ahead and bayh her with reg. shampoo (Your shampoo) just to get the dog smell off her just watch her eyes, baby shampoo will work as well. Why I am saying wait is because the dog shampoo can cause the dry skin and itchy skin. Oatmeal will work as well on dogs as it does us. After she gets older, go to your local vet office and get shampoo for puppies. I tend to just use baby shampoo on mine and then use a flea collar in case she gets a few fleas from outside. I am not big on dog shampoo myself. But after she gets older you may want to wash her 1 ~ 2 times a month. maybe every other week, Thats what I do with mine ESP if she is going to be a inside dog. GL
Reply:There are good shampoos made with oatmeal that do soothe the dog's skin. They are a good idea if your dog has itchy skin. How often you bathe your dog depends on him. Some dogs don't need to be bathed that often, but mine starts stinking after a week or two. If he has itchy skin already, he might have dry skin and shouldn't be bathed that much. You can get a waterless shampoo for him in that case.
Reply:You should give them a bath twice a day so that it's skin and that stay health and the pup don't get sick. Because I had puppies that where the same age and I got put in the hosptail and my mom was suposed to take care of them and she didn't and they died and it was ####### me.
Reply:do not bath untill 12 weeks of age. When bathing for the first time leave the head till last and make sure all the shampoo is rinsed out because that will cause itch skin. When you run your hand threw her coat and her coat squiks she should be ok then. If you want to bath her earlier make sure your vet approves it first. An oatmeal bath is fine but one thing you need to make sure of is that the shampoo states that it is for puppies 12 weeks or older or 8 weeks or older if vet approves. Make sure to follow the directions closely because some shampoos need to be diluted. As a puppy you may want to bath her every 3 to 4 weeks just to help her get used to it. Make sure it is a positive exsperiance for the dog and that will make it very easy and plesant in the future when she gets to be a large adult. When older you can probally bathe as needed.
