What can I do about my cat's dry skin?

She is itchy from the air conditioner that has been on for the past two weeks. She has what appears to be dandruff. She eats very good catfood, and it has sunflower oil (linloiec acid) in it for healthy coat. Should I supplement her with other fatty acids? She HATES baths and I rather not subject her to that torture. Is there anything else for her skin?

What can I do about my cat's dry skin?
My kitty, Sassy, had dandruff, but we went to the vet and got some drops to douse over their food. They work really well and cost under 20 bucks.

Reply:You might want to talk to your vet. If you are against giving her baths, you could try rubbing tea tree oil on her dry spots. It's good for the skin, and gets rid of dandruff. :)

Reply:I would definitely talk to the vet. It could be nothing a good brushing or a special food can't handle. With cats, you never really know. You just have to try different things until something works.

DON'T USE tea tree oil!!! It is harmful to cats and she may lick it off.





I think salmon oil is the best choice for oil. I use it in wet food and maybe you could try it with dry.
Reply:My vet told me to put a tablespoon of olive oil in her food. This is not only supposed to help with dry skin but also any stomache issues. I have used it on both my dog and cat and it works wonders.
Reply:Since her food is excellent, your best course is to the vet. This could be fleas, mites, or allergies.





Also, you might try giving her brewer's yeast tablets. This provides proteins and is a natural flea repellent. Lavender oil also repels fleas.

Reply:get some fish oil caps from the local supermarket or pharmacy. some even sell the bulk oil. you can mix it with the food or put a bit on the foot cats hate having things on their paws and will lick it off immediately. to help the flakes though more brushing will loosen the dead skin as it regenerates. cats can get a bit lazy and won't clean themselves up so even a washcloth with water rubbed around on the cats back area will help. be sure she always has enough water to drink hydration is key.
